Brief History: Marco Buonarotti, a successful boatswain on a merchant vessel, met his wife when she was 15 going on 50. The oldest of 6 children, Giovanna was practically raised to be a classic nonna. The first 4 years of their marriage was full of bliss and hard work on the ship until her husband fell ill and their less than loyal employer left them stranded at the closest port filled with residents of questionable repute. After her husband passed away, Giovanna found work at the only inn in the dingy port town that was now her home. Several years passed and the captain of the Scapegrace found himself enjoying the best brodetto di pesce (fish stew) and was pleased to find Giovanna not only willing to go to sea but also already experienced. Giovanna found a new family to dote on and the crew found themselves with a surrogate nonna.
